Learn the secrets of great MIDI mock-ups from one of the great masters of the art, Andy Blaney, in our exclusive self-study package.
We're excited to offer this special self-study package that will take your work to new levels. You can start any time. Every thing you need is just a download away.
This learning package builds on Professional Orchestration Volume 1. With Volume 1, and in our online classes, you focused on learning on how tor write for a single solo string instruments. Now, with the Master MIDI Mock-up Class, you apply that by learning how to set up with string samples dozens of techniques for the full the string section. You'll learn from Debussy's Jeux de vagues from La Mer and Jupiter from The Planets. Of particular importance in these works in learning from Andy how to create realistic sounding divisi with "regular" samples.
How You Learn You learn the way you'd study a score. First, starting with Jeux de vagues, listen to the live orchestral recording so the sound of the live orchestral is in your mind. Next. listen to the MP3 of Andy's mock-up which uses a blend of the VSL and other orchestral libraries. Using the Excel spreadsheet (your Thesaurus of Orchestral Devices), you'll see a list of string devices (combinations) used by Debussy in the score.
Now, simply look up the specific writing technique you need to learn, then import the MIDI file into your sequencer to see how Andy did it. Finally, apply what you've learned to your work. For shaping the line, you'll want to carefully observe how Andy uses volume and velocity editing.
